On Friday, September 18th, 2 cranes were brought in to lift new air handlers onto the roof at BCHC.  Four units were lifted and put into place in a carefully planned and carried out process.  The units were first lifted over the fence west of the hospital into the clinic parking lot.  A separate crane then was used to hoist them onto the roof.  These will provide heating and cooling for the new and remodeled areas of the hosptial.

Construction at
Buchanan County Health Center will begin on Monday, March 16th.  The north door into the facility will be blocked and the current registration office will be closed.  Patients headed for the emergency room, the out-patient clinic or other hospital services are asked to use the west entrance into the out-patient clinic area.

"We will have a registration office to the right, just inside that door", explained Administrator Bob Richard.  "This is also the door which will be available for emergency cases 24/7."

Temporary emergency and handicapped parking will be available.

A second registration office will be available across the hall from the Laboratory and Radiology departments.  Patients seeking these services are asked to use the south parking lot and south entrance.

"We will have a variety of new signage to help direct our patients," Richard added.  "We want to thank everyone for their patience during this process."

The entire construction project is expected to take approximately 24 months to complete.  Work will be done in three phases.  The first will include construction of a new ambulance garage and creation of a new emergency room in the former ambulance gargage location.  Simultaneously, crews will work in the former obstectrics area to create four additional specialty clicnic rooms, sleep rooms for staff, as needed, and additional office space for nurser practioner, among others.  This phase is expected to take about one year.  The second and third phases of the project will be renovating the current two original operating rooms.

The total cost of the project including interior furnishings, lighting and equipment is estimated at more than $6 million.
